Welcome to our Smoke-Free Campus

With the new year’s arrival, McMaster is now officially Ontario’s first 100% tobacco and smoke-free campus.

In September 2017, the university announced its plan to become a tobacco and smoke-free campus beginning in 2018. Throughout the fall, widespread consultation and planning was undertaken in preparation for the implementation of the new policy January 1.

The new designation is now in effect on the Hamilton campus, inside and on the grounds of the Ron Joyce Centre in Burlington, and at all McMaster-owned properties.

For the first year of the policy gradual enforcement will emphasize education and awareness. Information materials listing smoking cessation supports and other resources are being distributed and shared with those found smoking on campus.

There are many free programs and supports available for those who are interested in quitting smoking. The University encourages and welcomes everyone’s cooperation and support as this new designation is implemented.

You can visit the Smoke Free Campus website for more information about resources, the policy, and an FAQ.
