The program is offered by numerous departments around campus and is dedicated to helping new students with the transition from high school to university.
To register for Welcome Day go here .
Opportunities to interact with University staff, faculty and upper year students will be available through informational sessions that range from tips about living off-campus, presented by the Society of Off-Campus Students (SOCS), to taking effective study notes, presented by renowned professor Dick Day. To check out the full schedule of events go to the First Year Experience Office (FYEO) web site.
The FYEO will be presenting a First Generation program where information about being a first generation student, finding help and bursaries will be available. Also, the First Year Parent program will prove to be valuable sessions that will help parents cope with the change in their family life.
Throughout the day fun and informative tours will take place around campus. Residence tours will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will be led by upper year students to give firsthand advice to students and parents. The Totally Transit Tour, where volunteers and staff from McMaster Sustainability provide a tour around downtown Hamilton, should also not be missed. The tours will run every 15 minutes on an actual Hamilton Street Railway (HSR) bus to give students and parents the feel of living off-campus. Finally, there is a tour around the McMaster Museum of Art at the centre of campus that can't be missed.
Approximately 3800 students and parents are expected to attend. For more information, click here.
