If the University campus and surrounding community is looking a little cleaner today, you can thank a hardworking group of volunteers from McMaster and the Ainslie Wood/Westdale Community Association (AWWCA).
Members of the McMaster Alumni Association, Society of Off-Campus Students, Student Community Support Network, McMaster Outdoor Club and others gave up part of their weekend to team up with local residents to do a little spring cleaning on campus and in the neighbourhoods that border the University. According to event organizer Natasha Turner, it was a great way to give something back to the community.
“We get so much support from the community, it's nice to give something back,” she said. “It also allowed McMaster students and alumni to get to know and spend time with University neighbours. It's a really positive thing.”
This is not the first time McMaster community members have come together in the common effort to clean up the area. In 2008 the McMaster University-Westdale Campus Town Association began organizing a Kick Off Cleanup day, on which participants were treated to a McMaster Marauders football game.
