McMaster University&#039;s Security Services personnel work 24 hours a day, seven days a week <br />
to keep the campus community safe - and they do it with less impact on the environment <br />
than you may think.  <br />
<br />
In 2008 they began the process of making their work more environmentally-friendly. That <br />
was when Security Services began replacing its patrol vehicles with hybrids, purchasing a <br />
2008 Ford Escape hybrid and then a 2009 Chevrolet Malibu hybrid. Both cars release less <br />
carbon and have better fuel economy than the old patrol vehicles.<br />
<br />
Last fall, Security Services began replacing the lights on things such as vehicle emergency <br />
lighting systems and patrol bikes with LED lights that use less energy and last longer. They <br />
also expanded the use of bikes for patrol, giving officers more mobility while saving on <br />
fueling costs and producing no emissions. <br />

Below, Special Constable Krista Paolini explains the importance of Security Services&#039; <br />
sustainable initiatives and shows off the Chevrolet Malibu patrol car. <br />
