University President Patrick Deane was welcomed into the McMaster community with a strawberry social held in the Student Centre.

In his formal remarks, President Deane said that he is excited to be starting at McMaster and that he has already experienced warm welcomes across campus.

“I'm very much looking forward to getting to know everyone in the McMaster community,” said Deane. “If you see me on campus, I invite you to come say hello and help me learn about the University.”

Lynton (Red) Wilson, University Chancellor, introduced Deane at the event and talked about his own first time at McMaster.

“In my first few days, I came to understand that there were a lot of people here at McMaster who would help me find my way,” said Wilson. “And while campus has physically changed since those days, I can assure you that one thing has stayed the same: McMaster is a welcoming and understanding community, where everyone is eager to help ease the transition as someone new enters the McMaster family.”
