The King Tut exhibit and its associated treasures are in Canada today for the first time in more than 30 years. Though the name is instantly recognizable, how much do you really know about the “Boy King”?

Commissioned by Lord Carnarvon, archeologist Howard Carter
discovered the tomb of King Tutankhamun in Egypt's Valley of the Kings
in November, 1922. Taking nearly a decade to empty, King Tut's tomb
contained treasures never before discovered at an archeological site,
making it one of the most famous in the world. Other than the story of
the “Mummy's Curse”, however, many remain unaware of just who King Tut was.

Tristan Carter is an assistant professor in the Department of
Anthropology and teaches a number of courses in archaeology. He has
visited the King Tut exhibit twice, once in Cairo, Egypt, and touches
on the discovery of the tomb in his first-year World Archaeology
course. We spoke with him about who Tut was, why the public remains
fascinated by him and where the story of the curse got its start.
