“Mr. Trull has worked tirelessly in his commitment to advancement and alumni development, and to McMaster University,” said President Peter George. “He has become an innovative leader in his profession, a strong liaison with the community and an important member of the senior management team at the University.”
In the fall of 2004, a committee was struck to review his position. In February and March 2005 the committee reviewed letters of assessment about Trull, from internal and external colleagues, and peers in the profession of advancement and development. A sub-committee interviewed staff who report directly to Trull and their comments were considered during the review.
Trull leads McMaster's University Advancement operation, which includes a staff of 75 and a $5.2-million budget. He manages five distinct, but co-ordinated areas, including Advancement Services, Alumni Advancement, Development, Public and Government Relations, and decentralized advancement activities across campus. His team is responsible for ensuring McMaster has the resources and reputation to attract, develop and retain the best students, staff and faculty. University Advancement also is accountable for creating a dynamic environment for strong public and private support for McMaster through an innovative and integrated program for the University community, its alumni and the public.
Trull has had a long affiliation with McMaster. The 1979 magna cum laude graduate of McMaster and former president of the McMaster Students Union, was the University's director of alumni advancement and annual giving from 1987-1994. In addition, he has been involved in the University as president of the McMaster University Foundation, Friends of McMaster in the United States, and the Hong Kong Foundation. He has led the university advancement operations since 1994.
“I am honoured to continue being a part of the McMaster community which has been such a big part of my life,” said Trull. “To have received a wonderful education here, to have met my wife here and now to have had one of my children graduate and another currently attend Mac I am thrilled to be able to continue to work with a wonderful group of people who together work very hard to help make McMaster a better place. Under Dr George's leadership it has been a very exciting time and I know that will continue for years to come and I am glad I will be part of that excitement.”
Trull's community involvement is also vast, having served as vice-president of the Hamilton 2010 Commonwealth Games Bid Corporation, a member of the Commission on Alumni Relations for the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education, a member of the Hillfield Strathallan College Board of Trustees and a member of the Hamilton Niagara Mental Health Committee.
His reappointment was approved recently by the Board of Governors.
