Vice-president, Administration to retire

Roger Couldrey, who has been McMaster’s vice-president, Administration since 2009, has decided that as of July 1, 2021 he will be retiring from his current role at the university.

“I have loved the years I’ve spent at McMaster,” said Couldrey. “It is one of the most invigorating places to work with so many wonderful faculty who really are changing the world for the better and helping our students discover their potential. Our staff work together in amazing ways to deliver on the services, investments and programs that help to keep the university running and growing.”

Couldrey was a member of the Board of Governors for ten years before taking on the VP role and has been responsible for areas as diverse as finance, facilities, human resources, ancillaries and, jointly with the provost, University Technology Services (UTS). Previously his career included leadership positions at the Bank of Montreal, epost and other senior executive roles.

“Roger has led the administration division through complex and quickly changing times and has remained focused on supporting the academic and research mission of the university throughout,” said president, David Farrar. “He has always been 100% committed to the university’s success and on behalf of everyone at McMaster I want to thank him for being a model of professionalism, commitment and curiosity and for his consistent optimism and sense of fun.”

While Couldrey is retiring, there will be some ongoing projects that will keep him connected to the university, including supporting revenue generation activities in a variety of ways and the Uniforum operational excellence project.

“With 4 plus grandchildren family time is more important than ever and retirement will allow us to make important family memories,” says Couldrey.

The search for a new VP, Administration will begin in February.
