Updated McMaster COVID-19 website

As the McMaster community prepares for the start of its first-ever online term, the university’s COVID-19 website has been updated with essential new information, including reporting and exposure protocols for staff, faculty and students.

Along with updated health and safety resources, there is a lot of new student-focused information related to academics, virtual campus life and international students. The site will be updated regularly as new information becomes available.

Fall Convocations online

Convocation is an important part of the university experience, however with the need for physical distancing and to ensure the health and safety of the campus community, all fall convocation ceremonies will be celebrated online on Nov.19, 2020 at 12p.m. EST on registrar.mcmaster.ca/grad/details.

Graduands will receive an email that grants them access to the online celebration as well as a Class of 2020 website that contains congratulatory videos, messages, profiles and more.

Specific details will be emailed to graduands in the coming weeks and will include what to expect on graduation day, information on accessing the graduand portal and signing up for a digital diploma.

More information on convocation can be found on the registrar’s website.

Online security measures and a more reliable connection for students in mainland China

With privacy and online security being a primary concern as the McMaster community prepares for the first week of classes, University Technology Services (UTS) will be assisting students and instructors with guidance on the security features of different McMaster-provided web and video conferencing tools. For example, McMaster offers a campus-wide Zoom license to ensure as much security on that platform as possible.

Students in mainland China can now use the Alibaba VPN Global Accelerator for a faster, more reliable connection to McMaster’s network and resources, including student mail (Gmail), library resources and Mosaic. UTS will provide technical support and more information on its website.
