University’s Offer to Settle with CAW Local 555

On July 20 the University tabled an Offer to Settle with CAW Local 555, Unit 1.

Under the Offer to Settle, union members would receive:

  • a $1,000 signing bonus for all employees working at least half-time and $500 for employees working less than half-time
  • across-the-board (ATB) compounded pay increases of 5.85% over three years
  • normal step increases which range from 2% to 4% per year
  • no changes to existing employees' pension benefits
  • no changes to existing employees' post retirement health benefits (which are 100% funded by the University)
  • The Offer to Settle also includes a provision to send the issue of what kind of retirement plan would be offered to future employees to a third-party arbitrator for resolution.

    The Offer to Settle also provides union members with a new Job Evaluation System in which they have formalized rights to appeal, grieve and ask for third-party arbitration regarding job evaluations.
