University of Toronto honours Peter George

This week, his role will be reversed.

The President and Vice-Chancellor of McMaster University will receive an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from the University of Toronto today at its Convocation ceremony.

He is among four academic leaders being recognized by the University for their contribution to post-secondary education and research.

An economist and historian with a special interest in native peoples and northern development, George holds three degrees from U of T. In addition to a career in teaching and research, he has had a lengthy commitment to post-secondary education. He also is a member of the executive committee of the Council of Ontario Universities and of the advisory council of the United Nations University International Network on Water, Environment and Health.

George, who receives his honorary doctor of laws at 2:30 p.m., also will provide the Convocation address.
