McMaster University Faculty Association librarians and the University have successfully negotiated a three-year compensation contract.

The agreement was approved by the Board of Governors at its June 13 meeting.

The new agreement, which applies to the University's 28 librarians, includes several components that were extended from the McMaster University Faculty Association (MUFA) agreement. The MUFA agreement was approved March 28.

The librarians' agreement, which begins June 16, 2002 and goes to June 15, 2005, includes:

  • A three per cent across-the-board increase in each of the three years
  • Merit pool availability during the term of the contract – 2.21 per cent in 2002
  • A $200 lump sum payment to be added to the base salary in each of the three years
  • Improvements to the dental plan

Components that were negotiated separately from the MUFA and University agreement include:

  • A new paid bereavement leave policy
  • Improvements to the Librarians' Professional Development Allowance that will allow for an increase to $1,000 per year by the end of the agreement.
