Transparent masks available for instructors

McMaster is offering instructors and TAs masks with a clear component to make in-person classes more accessible.

To make classes more accessible, the university has ordered transparent masks for instructors who are holding in-person classes.

These masks meet public health requirements for safety, while also providing a large clear component for maximum clarity and ease of communication.

A high-quality mask that fits well and covers your nose and mouth is a key layer of defence during the COVID-19 pandemic. At McMaster, masks are required in all indoor spaces, in alignment with public health guidelines. More details here on masking quality and fit.

“For many members of our community, opaque COVID-19 masks create a barrier to communication, making it hard to read lips and interpret facial expressions,” says Arig al Shaibah, Associate Vice-President, Equity and Inclusion.

“Our hope is that the transparent masks will increase accessibility of communication for our in-person learners, helping them to engage with their academic curriculum and safely get the most out of their university experience.”

They will be available for instructors and teaching assistants to pick up at the Campus Store starting Monday, Feb. 14. More details will be made available to the community when the masks are ready for pickup.
