Program is designed to help students with disabilities make the transition from high school to university. “]The Centre for Student Development is launching an innovative program called HYPE! (Helping You Personalize Education), a three-day summer workshop to help students with disabilities make the transition from high school to university.

HYPE's aim is twofold: It will not only introduce students to new academic strategies and assistive learning technologies, but also orient students with the campus and university life. As part of this year's HYPE! Program, parents will be invited to attend an information session on Friday, July 6 (tentative).

This session will outline some of the disability support services available to students at the university level, as well as other support services.

This summer, the HYPE! Program will run from July 4 to 6 at McMaster University. There is no cost for the program. Students will be provided with residence accommodations and meals.

Highlights of HYPE! include:

  • Learning and studying strategies
  • Opportunities to experience life on campus
  • An introduction to assistive technologies
  • Social and recreational activities
  • Information about university services
  • Participating in workshops on academic and personal skills such as note-taking, exam/test strategies, time management and self-advocacy
  • Meeting CSD staff to discuss the accommodation process and CSD services
  • Taking part in campus tours and off-campus nightly outings

HYPE! is open to all incoming high school students considering attending an Ontario university. The conference is limited to 40 students, and the deadline is June 13. Any registration form submissions received after that date will be considered if space is still available.

Registration forms will be available on the HYPE! Summer Transition Program website.
