Tom Jenkins feted at engineering awards night

He grew up in Hamilton, earned his engineering degree from McMaster and today is the chairman of Canada's largest software company.
Tom Jenkins, executive chairman and chief strategy officer of Open Text Corporation, has been recognized for his contributions to engineering, McMaster University and the community with the L.W. Shemilt Distinguished Alumni Award.
The award was presented by McMaster's Faculty of Engineering during its annual Applause and Accolades Awards Celebration on Thursday, May 13. The event was held at LIUNA Station in Hamilton from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Also recognized for his contributions that evening was Paul Spekkens, vice-president, science and technology development, Ontario Power Generation, who was presented with the Faculty of Engineering Leadership Award.
New this year was the presentation of a Research Achievement Award. It was presented to Robert Pelton, professor of chemical engineering, Canada Research Chair in Interfacial Technologies, and a founding member of the Sentinel Bioactive Paper Network.
Engineering faculty and students were also recognized for their numerous achievements this past year.
