#TodayIFeel campaign aims to put student mental health in the spotlight

TodayIFeel

What do you do when you need to make yourself feel better? Where do you go for help? Who can you talk to?

#TodayIFeel is a McMaster Students Union campaign taking place Feb. 24-28 that aims to provide a forum for frank and open conversations surrounding mental health.

Using the hashtag #TodayIFeel, students can share their thoughts, feelings and stories on social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Throughout the week, organizers will be hosting different events for students:

Feb. 24-28:

From 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. students can visit a display table near Starbucks in the Student Centre to pick up resources and information regarding mental health, and discover what services are offered on and off campus.

Volunteers will also be taking pictures and videos of students sharing their #TodayIFeel stories. Students are encouraged to visit the display, say hello and share their story.

Tuesday, Feb. 25:

From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., organizers will hide “Stigma-Elephant in the Room” stress balls around campus. If you find one of these blue elephants, take a picture where you found it, share it via Twitter, Facebook or Instagram and share the piece of information attached to it. Volunteers want to collect as many pictures of the blue elephants as possible. The stress balls were provided by the Mood Disorders Society of Canada.

Friday, Feb. 28:

From 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. the MSU Mental Health Showcase will take place in the Student Centre atrium. During the event, students will be able to interact with various University services providers as well as MSU services and clubs, and discover what resources are available to them. Volunteers will also display footage and images collected throughout the week.
