This month with the President: Supporting student mental health

This month with the President

University life can be stressful: being away from home, meeting new people, juggling a part-time job and full-time academics. But there are lots of campus resources that provide stress relief and help dealing with mental health issues.

In this instalment of the video series This month with the President, Patrick Deane visits the Student Health Education Centre (SHEC) to discuss student mental health and stress. He is joined by Kelsey O’Neill, who talks about the services SHEC offers and its December “Stressbusters” campaign.

“Students have access to much more than academic counselling,” says Deane. “There’s a peer-support phone line, the Wellness Centre, SHEC and other resources that students can take advantage of.”

There are lots of de-stress activities happening on campus this month, including:

• De-stress zones at the Lyons New Media Centre and Innis Library that include free cookies, board/video games and more
• Dog visits in Mills Library Dec. 12 and 17, from 1-2 p.m.
• Chaplaincy Centre coffee socials
• Crafting workshop with Threadwork
