In a letter shared with the McMaster community in late September, McMaster President Patrick Deane
outlined the priorities and principles he believes will best help shape the University's development.

“I wanted to share my thoughts on the principles that guide us in planning for our future and the
priorities that I believe will be critical if we are to achieve our goals,” said Deane. “I hope that everyone
takes the time to read the letter and to participate within their units and in broader University
discussions to develop ways to advance the priorities outlined.

“The contributions of students, faculty, staff, alumni and others who are part of the broader McMaster
family will be critical to our success.”

In the October edition of This month with the President, Deane talks about why he chose to write a letter,
some of the priorities it includes and says he looks forward to getting feedback from the McMaster
community.
