McMaster's director of Athletics and Recreation is leaving the University for a new opportunity in London. Therese Quigley is joining the University of Western Ontario as its new director of Sport and Recreation Services.

“We've built such a great sports and athletics program and wonderful facilities at McMaster that it's difficult to leave,” says Quigley. “But Western provides a wonderful opportunity to do it all again for my alma mater. Moving to London is also important right now because of personal and family interests.”

Quigley graduated from Western in 1975 and won the Women's Athletic Alumnae Award in 1993.

“Therese has put her heart and soul into McMaster and it's hard to imagine the University without her,” said McMaster president Peter George. “She always put students first, leads by example, believes in and achieves excellence and is as committed to the Hamilton community and sporting organizations across Canada as she is to the University.”

Quigley says, “I've been lucky to have such a great team working with me. The staff in every part of Athletics and Recreation is top notch and it's because of their hard work that we're consistently seen as leaders in progressive and innovative programs.”

Quigley begins her new job at Western on July 1, 2009.
