The McMaster Marauders have inched closer to clinching first place in the Ontario University Athletics football conference.

With the team’s 33-27 win over the Western Mustangs Saturday, the Marauders improved to 5-0 on the season.

Kyle Quinlan was the top rusher in the contest, gaining 145 yards on 10 carries and scoring one touchdown. He also completed 18 of 32 passes for 247 yards and two scoring strikes, with no interceptions.

The Marauders quarterback now has 53 career touchdown passes, and is only six behind Ben Chapdelaine, who holds the McMaster career record with 59. Quinlan has three games left to become the team’s all-time leader for touchdown passes in a career.

The win was part of a successful weekend for McMaster’s varsity athletes. The Marauders men’s rugby team captured its third consecutive win, the men’s and women’s soccer teams both beat the Brock Badgers and the women’s cross-country squad became the first Canadians to take the team title at the Loyola University Lakefront Invitational in Chicago.
