Don’t judge a book by its cover. Take a professor emeritus’ word instead.

When it comes to mystery novels, there may not be a bigger lover of the genre than McMaster’s own P.K. Rangachari.

The professor emeritus of medicine is a regular member of The Next Chapter’s longtime mystery panel on CBC Radio.

The panel was recently asked to name its picks for best mystery novels of the year.

Rangachari recommended three novels to listeners: Michael Pearce’s “The Bride Box,” Barbara’s Nadel’s “Body Count” and Jussi Adler-Olsen’s “The Purity of Vengeance.”
