‘Thank you for believing in me’

Jacqueline Khan

Fourth year psychology student Jacqueline Khan received several bursaries while studying at McMaster, including one for being a first generation university student. Khan says she wants bursary supporters to know she appreciates their belief in her, and that she intends to give back when she can.

Jacqueline Khan knows the benefits of receiving a bursary.

The fourth year psychology student received support throughout her time at McMaster, including bursaries for being a first generation student and for being an active campus leader.

“Financial strain can be a real problem,” she says. “Having that extra support can really help you focus on academics.”

Khan says that saying “thank you” to those who contribute to student bursaries doesn’t quite convey her feelings about their support.

“It’s really a thank you for believing in me. You’ve invested in me and believed that I could change the future with what I learn, and I appreciate that.”

Khan eventually wants to complete a nursing degree, in order to “help the community in a greater way.”

“One day I want to volunteer in Africa,” she says. “I’ve been so fortunate in life, I want to give something back.”

The 125 Bursary Challenge ends at 4 p.m. Dec. 6. The 48-hour campaign is raising funds for the University’s 125th anniversary bursary, which supports Hamilton-area students in need.
