A joint statement from McMaster’s Human Resources and Equity and Inclusion offices calls on all employees to support each other in dealing with incidents of anti-Black racism, by ensuring affected employees are offered support and accommodation, encouraging participation in virtual events and joining broader McMaster efforts to address issues of equity, inclusion and anti-racism.

“It is during moments of great crises, that we are often presented with opportunities for leadership and action,” says the statement, co-signed by the AVPs of HR and the Equity and Inclusion Office.

It encourages all to “lead from a position of compassion and humility, and be supportive and understanding to members within your teams who have been particularly impacted by pandemic-related challenges as well as anti-Black racism.”
