On Friday, Sept. 25, 2009 the McMaster First Nations Student Association (MFNSA) hosted a welcoming powwow outside of the John Hodgins Engineering building at McMaster.

The powwow was the first event of the year for the MFNSA, which is celebrating its twentieth anniversary on campus. The event gave the McMaster community the chance to learn more about indigenous cultures, as well as the Indigenous Studies program at the University.

Highlights included drum, dance and song demonstrations as well as samples of traditional cuisine, including strawberry drink, Three Sisters Soup, bannock and wild rice

The MFNSA provides a peer support network for indigenous students at McMaster and works to increase awareness of aboriginal issues while promoting and encouraging post-secondary education within the First Nations community.
