The third-year anthropology student has been working at Student Accounts & Cashiers for the past year and hopes the position will lead to a career in a related field.

“I know that I would like a career in the financial area,” says Wyne. “I love having an office job and I love dealing with money. I would like to do my MBA after I'm done my undergrad.”

Working at Student Accounts & Cashiers has provided her with financial experience as well as a better understanding of the work that goes on behind the scenes to keep students' accounts in order.

“As a McMaster student, it makes me appreciate all the hard work that everyone in this office is doing,” she says. “Before I worked here, I never realized what goes on here.”

Her responsibilities include answering e-mails from students, processing their cheques, completing tax forms and sending reimbursement letters.

Wyne has developed a variety of skills since she began working at Student Accounts & Cashiers last fall. Meeting deadlines has strengthened her time management skills, while working with others has improved her communication skills.

“I think with time, I felt more comfortable dealing with students and interacting with them,” she says, adding that she also learned teamwork skills.

“Everything is a team effort. For example, one task in this office may involve more than one person, so I find it really important to get along in a team environment.”
