Patel was selected among all Golden Key student leaders across Canadian universities for the Regional Student of the Year Award. The results were announced at a recent conference in Saskatoon.

Golden Key is an internationally recognized academic honour society dedicated to excellence. Membership is by invitation only to those students in the top 15 per cent of their faculty.

Patel was chosen from a pool of candidates, consisting of Golden Key members from across Canada, for her dedication to Golden Key, campus leadership, community service, undergraduate record and most notably for her efforts in affiliating IBM with Golden Key.

She has been involved with Golden Key at the chapter, national and international level over the past four years. She was inducted in 2001 and has taken on several positions with the McMaster chapter executive including positions as public relations director, vice president, and currently as the chapter operations advisor. She also has attended two regional Canadian leadership conferences (in Ottawa and Vancouver) and one international conference (in Chicago).

“In addition to gaining a significant amount of leadership experience, I have also had the opportunity to organize and engage in a significant number of community service events with various local organizations,” she says.

Patel also completed a 16-month internship at IBM Canada last year where she played an instrumental role in establishing a partnership between IBM and Golden Key Canada. “This year, I have initiated several campus outreach activities that helped the McMaster Chapter receive the Outreach Chapter award at the national conference in Saskatoon,” she says.

Patel feels honoured to have received the award. “It is very encouraging to have received this recognition from Golden Key for my contribution to the organization as well as my undergraduate university career achievements. I look forward to continuing my involvement with the organization after graduation and provide alumnus support to the McMaster Chapter in the future.”

“We are extremely proud of Sangita's special recognition by the Golden Key,” said Nick Bontis, director of undergraduate programs in the DeGroote School of Business. “This is quite an honour to receive from such a reputable organization.”
