Strong demand for McMaster

With this current phase in the application process nearing a close, McMaster continues to experience strong demand from secondary school students wishing to study here this September.
The window for students to accept first year offers has closed and the University continues to analyze data. Based on a preliminary review, it appears the primary objective of reversing recent year-over-year first year enrolment increases has been met.
“The results of our recruitment efforts are strong,” says Ilene Busch-Vishniac, Provost and Vice-President Academic. “McMaster is the preferred choice of thousands of applicants. This reflects the high quality of education that McMaster offers students.”
Applications to McMaster grew 3.3 per cent this year. That growth mirrors increasing demand across Ontario, where applications rose 3.6 per cent.
It is anticipated each of McMaster's 17 direct entry programs will reach their anticipated enrolment targets for 2008-09.
Changes in student options for the 2008-09 academic year include a shift in the Faculty of Science from a common first-year program for all students to three options in Life Sciences, Environmental and Earth Sciences and Physical Sciences. Engineering also placed a stronger emphasis on Co-op opportunities for students and the new joint Bachelor of Technology program with Mohawk College.
