The David Braley Athletic Centre echoed with the sounds of delighted children attending the 14th Annual McMaster Children's Party Snowflake Celebration earlier this month.
University President Peter George welcomed nearly 400 children who were treated to hours of winter fun at the party. This year's entertainment included inflatables, a magic show by Daring Derek, a high-energy performance by the McMaster Breakdancing Club and appearances by TC from the Hamilton Tiger Cats, Bruiser from the Hamilton Bulldogs and Snow White. Children also had the opportunity to visit "Papa" and operate his model trains, have their faces painted with snowflakes, do crafts, play games, win prizes and recharge at the buffet table and snow cone machine.
The highlight for many was a visit and photo with Santa Claus and each child left the party with a gift and goody bag. Parents enjoyed the convenience of free underground parking and the new larger venue which allowed all activities to take place in a single location.
The party also raised $500 for the United Way through a raffle of four gift baskets.
The Snowflake Celebration was made possible by the year-long efforts of the volunteer planning
Committee who planned and staffed the party, as well as the campus and community sponsors who donated funds, items and services. Their names are listed on the party website.
The planning committee has already begun work on next year's celebration to be held on Saturday, December 4, 2010. If you would like to get involved, please forward your name and contact information to childrensparty@mcmaster.ca.
