Snow on campus nothing new for McMaster

The more things change, the more things stay the same – at least when it comes to winters on campus.

The photo below, posted to the University’s Instagram account Thursday, shows a staff member clearing snow near Hamilton Hall sometime in the 1930s.

The scene may be a familiar one given yesterday’s dumping of snow, but it’s from a very different era: Canada had only just gained parliamentary independence from the U.K.,  the Great Depression was still on and the Second World War was only a few years away.

McMaster had just made the move from Toronto to Hamilton, with the support of local citizens. Their fundraising efforts were recognized in the naming of Hamilton Hall.
