The students will travel to the Caribbean country during reading week in February and again in May to distribute the supplies.

The students are members of a club called Dominican Republic Education and Medical Support (D.R.E.A.M.S.). They have been participating in the “no-dream-a-thon” since 8 a.m. yesterday, and they'll be up until 8 p.m. tonight.

So, what does it feel like to be awake for more than 24 hours?

“I'm delirious,” said Liz Camastro, a fourth-year English and history student. “It's mind over matter at this point. You have to keep in mind what you're doing it for.”

The students stayed awake by playing cards, charades and hide-and-go-seek.

They will be attending class today, and some have to work.

“One of us has a three-hour class today,” said Camastro. “I'm pretty sure he's going to die in his seat.” Another student will be giving campus tours to prospective students and their families.

In addition to financial donations, the students are also collecting school supplies and medical supplies such as bandages, gauze and latex gloves. They also need donations of winter clothing because they will be visiting people who live in colder, mountainous regions.

All the money collected from the event will go toward the purchase of supplies. The students will pay for their own airfare.
