Residence move-out

More than 4,500 students will move out of residence between April 19 and 27, with
more than 2,500 departing between April 22 and April 27.
On these days it will be very busy on the roadways near the residences in both the
north and west quads, especially between 2 and 7 p.m.
University staff who travel the roadway and/or park in lot E (opposite McKay Hall, the
Commons Building), lot G (opposite Woodstock and Hedden Halls) and in front of Les
Prince Hall, will find these areas particularly congested.
To avoid the bustle of cars pulling in and out of the parking spots and the general
increase in pedestrian and vehicular traffic in this area, staff are strongly encouraged to
park in the underground stadium parking lot. For these dates, transponder holders for
zones E and G will be permitted to park underground. Exam parking for students will
also be the underground lot.
Move-out parking attendants wearing orange safety vests will be working shifts in both
the north and west quads starting on Tuesday, April 19. These student attendants will
ensure that visiting cars do not block roadways, fire lanes, or pedestrian walkways.
Pedestrians in the west quad should also note that cars will be allowed to drive to
Moulton, Matthews, and Wallingford Halls along the emergency roadway north and east
of Mary Keyes residence and to stop in designated areas to load students and their
belongings.
Again, student attendants will ensure that cars move safely in one direction only and
do not block emergency vehicle access.
Parking and Security Services have assisted in the preparation of the move-out plan to
ensure that the process runs smoothly.
Sustainable move-out
To encourage a sustainable move-out, three collection boxes have been set up in
MUSC (hallway leading to Williams Fresh Cafe).
Clothing donations: Clothing collected will be donated to Good Shepherd.
Food donations: Food collected will be donated to Good Shepherd.
Book donations: Books collected by the Golden Key Society will be re-sold or
recycled in an environmentally friendly manner.
Boxes will be set up until April 29. Details are available from the

Sustainability.
Enforcement of bylaws
The City of Hamilton and Hamilton Police Services are working in partnership to
proactively enforce neighbourhood bylaws. These bylaws are designed to ensure a
liveable, safe and pleasant neighbourhood for all residents.
The April Proactive program features both reactive and proactive enforcement of
property standards, waste management, yard waste and maintenance, noise, public
nuisance and liquor license act violations.
As part of this program, a courtesy letter is sent to property owners and occupants of
addresses where bylaw and property violations were found within the past year. The
letter advises the property owner and occupants of their responsibilities to comply with
bylaws.
Officers take a zero tolerance approach to noise enforcement and unruly behaviour.
They have also been instructed to lay appropriate charges for noise/litter violations,
public nuisances, liquor and criminal offences.
Waste management
For those living in the Westdale and Ainslie Wood neighbourhoods, McMaster is
sponsoring a community electronics pick-up on Friday, April 22. Electronic waste items
can be left on the curbside that morning and they will be picked up for recycling in
compliance with the Ontario Electronic Stewardship program. For a full list of
acceptable electronic items,

The St. Vincent de Paul Society is available to conduct free pick-ups of unwanted used
furniture items. They can be contacted at 905-549-3902.
