There they unveiled a plaque and a tree planted in his remembrance. Clarke, 73, passed away in March of this year.

“My brother had a strong love of gardening, so the metaphor of planting this tree in his name is especially meaningful,” said Jane Taylor at today's dedication.

The planting of the tree was the first official planting for the Commemorative Giving Program which is organized by the Office of Alumni Advancement. The program allows for someone to pay tribute to a loved one, friend or colleague while contributing to the natural beauty of the campus.

Bruce was only 19 when he began working at McMaster in the receiving department and was a dominant presence on campus during his 19 years here. His father, Evelyn T. Clarke, for whom the ET Clarke building is named, was head groundskeeper for over 20 years.

Jane Taylor, who was married on campus several years ago, also made a donation to the University on behalf of her brother.

“This gift will strengthen McMaster which has played such a central role in the lives of the Clarke family,” added Taylor.
