Red dresses lined the Nina de Villiers garden Friday to raise awareness for missing and murdered indigenous women.

Red dresses surrounded the Nina de Villiers Garden, in front of University Hall, Friday to raise awareness about missing and murdered indigenous women.

The dresses were meant to represent the missing women and included pictures and biographies.

The project, organized by second-year student Katelyn Knott in partnership with the Indigenous Studies Program, raised funds for the Hamilton Native Women’s Shelter.

“I hope this display makes people stop and think for a moment about these women and realize the issue at hand,” said Knott.

The display was coordinated with vigils which happened across the country over the weekend.
