Shortly afterwards, construction of a new student residence will begin also on north campus near Hedden Hall.

For local residents who wish to learn more about these projects, a public meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 27, 2005 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in Gilmour Hall, Rm. 111, Council Room. The meeting provides an opportunity for the project managers and contractors to provide information to local residents and discuss their specific inquiries and issues.

The athletics and recreation complex will include a new multi-use sports hall, indoor running track, enlarged fitness centre, new locker rooms and an expanded sports medicine clinic. This is a $30-million project scheduled to open in the fall 2006. In addition to the sports complex, the project includes a $13-million one-tier, multipurpose stadium (approved pending funding) that will enhance the existing Les Prince Field.

The student residence will be constructed to accommodate an additional 400 students on campus in time for the fall 2006 school term.

Preparation for excavation of the athletic and recreation project is under way – hoarding is being installed, construction trailers are moving into place, and there will be removal of designated retaining walls and walkways as well as the bleachers from Les Prince Field.

Construction vehicles will access campus via the Sterling Street entrance. Large equipment will use Forsyth Street North and turn directly onto Stearn Drive in front of the Ivor Wynne Centre. All vehicles will access the construction site from Michell Drive beside the Pinky Lewis Fieldhouse. All pedestrians and drivers are asked to take extra caution when travelling in this part of campus throughout the construction period.
