Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities, Chris Bentley has unveiled a three-year funding plan for universities and colleges. The funding is part of the governments $6.2 billion Reaching Higher Plan for Postsecondary Education.

“We have said for some time that the Reaching Higher Plan wasn't reaching high enough and I'm afraid that this announcement doesn't change that view,” says McMaster president, Peter George. “The government announced the $6.2 billion plan in 2005. Since that time student numbers have gone up more than projected but the overall dollar amount has not.”

Earlier this week the government announced that a record number of students are attending Ontario's colleges and universities this year. The number of students choosing to attend an Ontario university has increased by over 86,000 since 2002-03. McMaster's student number for this year won't be finalized until later this fall.
