McMaster researchers are receiving federal grants for healthcare-related research projects ranging from the assessment of physician migration to other countries to environmental toxicants adversely affecting human reproduction.

Canadian Institutes of Health Research grants worth $10.9 million for 30 McMaster University health care research projects were announced as part of $112 million in research grants in Ontario by Harold Albrecht, MP for Kitchener-Conestoga. This was part of a larger federal announcement today of research funding of $270 million for 800 health research projects across Canada.

The studies, which range from one to five years, include a project by McMaster professor Dr. Ivy Bourgeault, Canada Research Chair in Comparative Health Labour Policy, which will assess policies addressing the migration of physicians, nurses and midwives in and out of Canada, and compare them to policies in countries included the United States, United Kingdom and Australia. Her study will help to uncover important ethical solutions to the health human resources crisis.
