They were all made possible through the generous donations of McMaster alumni and graduating students. To recognize these gifts and encourage future graduating classes to give back, “Red Tag” posters are appearing across campus.

Since the creation of McMaster University in 1887, students and alumni have generously donated their time and money to make McMaster what it is today.

Graduating students have expressed gratitude for the world-class education they received at McMaster by making a contribution that will benefit future students.

This is the time of year graduating students begin preparing for the final exams of their University career and their life after graduation. Students may already be thinking of ways to give back, wondering how they can leave a lasting impression on the institution that provided them with the tools they need to succeed.

Donations made by McMaster students and alumni have:

  • Created scholarships and bursaries, which have recognized the academic achievements of undergraduate students and assisted countless students in financial need. In 2007/2008, more than 700 students received a donor-funded scholarship.
  • Contributed to the construction of the new David Braley Athletic Centre, McMaster Alumni Association Field, Ron Joyce Stadium and the facilities in each venue, including squash courts, lockers, fitness testing rooms, classrooms, meeting rooms and offices.
  • Enhanced the campus through several beautification projects, including the Class of 1954 Oasis Garden, the 1928 Arts Class Sundial on Hamilton Hall and several other gardens, trees and benches throughout the campus.

There is no such thing as a small donation because they all make a big difference. This year as students walk across the stage, receive their degree, and embark on the world that awaits, we hope that although they are no longer a McMaster student, they will remain connected to McMaster through the Alumni Association.
