McMaster medical student Hau Truong has been named a finalist in Magna International's 2000 As Prime Minister Awards national judging program.

As one of 11 finalists from across Canada chosen from over 500 submissions, Hau has won $10,000 and a paid, four-month internship at Magna International Inc., Canada's largest supplier of automotive systems and components.

As a finalist, Hau will compete for the top prize, which carries an award of an additional $10,000 and one-year paid internship with Magna.

The national winner will be announced on Nov. 8. Hau, who is spending the fall doing research into the AIDS virus at Cornell University in New York, has been recognized by Maclean's magazine as one of “100 Up and Coming Canadians.”

Hau's vision is to nurture human potential by expanding the paradigm of health to include all Canadians. Hau and 49 other semi-finalists presented their Prime Ministerial advice before a national panel of judges in August.
