The McMaster Marauder baseball team moved a step closer to
securing a second place finish, and a home playoff date, with a 6-2 defeat of the Western Mustangs on Sunday afternoon.

The Mustangs jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning, but McMaster answered back scoring two runs in the bottom half of the first. Brandon Schmidt scored on a Kevin Comiskey groundout and Neil McBride doubled home Andy Steeds. McMaster would add another two runs in the second when two runs scored on a Jeremy Paikin single. The Marauders would add another two runs in the fourth to secure the
victory. Josh Krywionek picked up the win for the Marauders pitching six innings allowing only one earned run on seven hits while striking out three.

OUA batting leader Jeremy Paikin continued to lead the way on offense for McMaster with two hits and three RBIs. In the second game of the doubleheader, the Mustangs secured a 3-0 victory on Ryan Butkowskis complete game four hitter.

With four games left in the regular season, the Marauders have a
one game lead on the Toronto Varsity Blues for second place in the OUA.

The Blues split a doubleheader against the Laurier Golden Hawks on Sunday and have two games left against the first place Brock Badgers to close out their regular season. The Waterloo Warriors are three games behind McMaster with four games remaining on their schedule.

The OUA playoffs get underway next weekend with games one and two of the semifinal series taking place on Saturday, Oct. 4 at the higher seeded teams home park.
