In front of a sold-out crowd Monday, McMaster third-year running back, Jesse Lumsden rushed 12 times for 215 yards and scored three touchdowns to lead the McMaster Marauders to a 56-0 victory over the University of Guelph Gryphons.

McMaster started second-year quarterback, Jon Behie who completed 12 of 17 (71 per cent) passes for 245 yards. Rookie quarterback, Adam Archibald entered the game in the third quarter to finish the game with four completions in seven attempts for 75 yards. Third-year quarterback, Mike Zaremba did not dress due to a sore back.

McMaster 2002 CIS rushing leader (1227) Kyle Pyear added 98 yards on the ground and snared three passes for 59 yards to finish with 157 multi-purpose yards and two touchdowns.

Hamilton product Rick Andrade added 51 yards on the ground on six
carriers, and Rookie Fullback Tom Flaxman had 28 yards on four carries
for the Marauders.

OUA second team all-star, Vaughn Swart, led the McMaster receiving corps with six catches for 115 yards. Third-year slotback, Conrad Gloge added three receptions for 81 yards.

Fourth-year kicker, OUA all-star Kicker, Mike Ray was good on four-five field goals and all six converts for 18 points.

McMaster accumulated 715 net yards on 410 rushing and 320 passing.

Guelph quarterback, Kevin Adam completed 11 passes in 23 attempts (48 per cent) for 126 yards and added another 23 yards in rushing. Gryphon running back, Chris Poynter rushed for 47 yards on 13 carries. Receiver Drew Davenport caught four passes for 71 yards, Dan Koutts added 19 yards on a lone carry and Mike Drake three receptions for 15 yards.

Defensively, McMaster held the University of Guelph to 78 rushing yards and 126 passing yards and forced 21 negative yards for 183 net yards.

The McMaster defense tallied four interceptions (Jon Chard, Brandon
Little, Tristan Clovis, Jayson Pottinger). Jesse Chard and Josh Armstrong added three tackles and three assisted tackles each on the day.

The Guelph defense was supported by defensive back, Andrew Degouw with four tackles and four assisted tackles, Andrew Oosterhuis (DB) with four tackles and three assisted tackles and linebacker, Glen Tombia with four tackles.
