One of McMaster's senior administrators has been asked to assist in the search for a new chief executive officer and board of directors for Cambridge Memorial Hospital.

Karen Belaire, vice-president administration, is helping Ministry of Health-appointed supervisor Kevin Smith with the restructuring of the Cambridge hospital.

Belaire, who has extensive experience in financial management and the health care sector, is acting chief executive officer. The ministry has appointed a full-time chief operating officer to manage day-to-day issues.

“It is exciting to be involved in this process,” said Belaire. “I will be focusing my work in the restructuring of the hospital on two specific areas, leadership and governance. McMaster has a wealth of talented people in the Faculty of Health Sciences and the School of Business with expertise in these areas and I'm eager to work with them to bring that knowledge to the rebuilding process.”

Belaire's work with the restructuring process in Cambridge is expected to take about four months.
