Posted on Oct. 27: Marauders defeat Waterloo 70-7 in OUA quarter-final action

[img_inline align=”right” src=”http://padnws01.mcmaster.ca/images/Jon-Behie_opt.jpg” caption=”Jon Behie”]The second-ranked McMaster Marauders advanced to the OUA semifinals with a 70-7 victory over the University of Waterloo on Saturday.

The Marauders will take on the Windsor Lancers on Saturday, Nov. 1 in the OUA semifinal. The champion of this match will seek the Yates Cup on Nov. 8.

McMaster accumulated 663 net yard of offense versus 266 net yards for the University of Waterloo in the victory.

McMaster running back, Rick Andrade had 114 in rushing and two touchdowns to secure the win. Rookie Devin Brown had 43 yards on six carries in his first appearance as a Marauder to secure the win. Hec Crighton nominee, Jesse Lumsden, scored two touchdowns and gained 41 yards on six carries before being removed from the game early in the second quarter. 2002 All-Canadian, Kyle Year, sat out for the second consecutive week with a score neck.

combined at quarterback to tally 410 yards in passing. OUA All-Star
canditate, Vaughn Swart had 121 yards and one touchdown on the day. Rookie Rob Serviss had four catches for 82 yards in his debut as a Marauder. Zach Strom added 64 yards on six catches, Fifth-year senior, Chris Rankin had 58 yards on two catches for the Marauders.

Waterloo quarterback Jon Morbey had 81 yards on seven carries with Jay
Akindilore with 47 yards on 10 carries. Ian Forde added four catches for 110 yards for the Warriors.

McMaster was led defensively by Nic Burns with five tackles and one fumble recovery leading to a major and Jon Chard with four tackles and one assisted tackle. McMaster linebacker and Hamilton St. Mary's product Manny Furtado scored his first touchdown in his career for the Marauders.

Waterloo had strong support from John Sullivan with six tackles and nine assists, and Tobin Pyear with four tackles, four assisted tackles and two fumble recoveries.
