An Applause and Accolades Awards Celebration will recognize the achievements of engineering faculty in 2003, including four Premier's Research Excellence Awards, one teaching award, three University honoured awards, two Canada Research Chairs and 17 professional association and societies recognitions. The event also will celebrate a business leader's exemplary contributions to McMaster and the community.

“This event will publicly acknowledge the success of our corporate partnerships and our many internal successes within the Faculty of Engineering,” says Mo Elbestawi, dean of engineering. “This is an opportunity to share in the appreciation of all our outstanding recipients.”

McMaster will present former chairman and CEO of Dofasco John Mayberry with the Faculty of Engineering Leadership Award. This inaugural award will recognize Mayberry as a corporate partner who has impacted McMaster's research and educational programs and has provided leadership, vision and contributions to the Faculty's mission.

“John Mayberry's contributions to the faculty and to our community have been exemplary,” Elbestawi says. “He has been very involved in McMaster, as a key volunteer with McMaster's Changing Tomorrow Today fundraising campaign, and through the establishment of two scholarships for outstanding engineering students.”

There also will be a significant funding announcement for engineering researchers at this gala event.

The gala will take place from 6 to 9:30 p.m. at Liuna Station, 360 James Street, Hamilton. Tickets are $100 and include a three-course dinner with wine. The emcee for the event will be Connie Smith, an anchor with CH News at Noon. Entertainment is also planned.
