The double cohort has raised many questions for students, parents, universities, and governments. Officials at the McMaster Office of the Registrar have been asking themselves, “How many applicants would accept if we made them offers?” This past Saturday, thousands of prospective students answered that they are very interested in McMaster when they attended May@Mac, the University's spring open house.

By 9:50 a.m. on Saturday, 600 cars had entered the campus. The parking kiosks opened at 9:30 a.m. Estimates from Parking & Transit Services put attendance at between 5,500 and 6,500 people.

All of the visitors were welcomed by hundreds of staff, faculty and student volunteers. From the initial greeting at the University entrances to explanations at tour checkpoints to presentations at department information sessions, prospective students were treated to the friendly McMaster atmosphere.

“The success of May@Mac was the result of the cooperation and participation of so many people across campus,” says Bonnie Crocker, student liaison officer. This success was reflected in the comments from those who attended the open house.

“The feedback indicated that our visitors were pleased with how well-organized we were, and how much there was to see and do,” notes Crocker.

University volunteers were the key to ensuring that the many activities of the open house ran smoothly. Explains Crocker, “May@Mac would not have been the achievement it was without the support form all areas across campus. This event was definitely a success for our office, for each program, and for the University in general.”
