It's March break for area high school students, and that means thousands will be touring campuses across the country to get a closer look at campus life. This week, McMaster will host approximately 1,800 prospective undergraduate students for 90-minute campus tours. In addition, the University expects about 800 visitors on Saturday, March 20.

“A growing number of students are using March break as an opportunity to explore the campuses they may be attending next year,” says Bonnie Crocker, liaison officer with the Student Liaison Office. “Tours bode well for McMaster because we have such a naturally beautiful campus and our visitors are always impressed.”

In addition to March break tours that are scheduled twice daily on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday this week, by appointment only, staff will wrap up the activities with the annual “March Break Saturday,” which includes tours on a first-come, first-serve basis.

“This year, instead of the basic information sessions and tours, we've expanded March Break Saturday to include an opportunity to speak with representatives from each of the faculties and level I programs as well,” says Crocker.

A student services panel discussion scheduled for Saturday morning will also help shed some light on student resources, with representatives from Athletics & Recreation, Housing & Conference Services, Hospitality Services, Career Planning & Employment Centre, Centre for Student Development, Campus Health, and Student Financial Aid & Scholarships.

Student Liaison has 60 tour guide staff members who are all current McMaster students.

Reservations for walking tours are filling up quickly, with the four tours scheduled for Monday and Tuesday already at capacity. This is the last major touring event before May@Mac on Saturday, May 8, the campus-wide open house where prospective students have a chance to meet with faculty representatives, attend lectures and workshops, tour special facilities, and talk with McMaster students, and tour residence facilities.
