The provost's office has announced an interim arrangement for the student affairs office following the death of associate vice-president Mary Keyes.

Under the temporary arrangement, directors of units that reported to Keyes will retain responsibility for day-to-day operations of their areas. On issues relating to student discipline or other academic matters, the group will report to associate vice-president academic Fred Hall. Hall will also oversee budget requests. Hall or provost and vice-president academic Ken Norrie will represent the unit on University committees.

Norrie commended faculty and staff for their support in helping to achieve an interim solution. “We are very pleased and encouraged by the willingness of faculty and staff to help us deal with this challenge. We are also grateful to the directors of the student affairs units for the service they provided during Mary's absence and for their willingness to take on this extra load now.”

Keyes was to retire at the end of June. A search committee for a new associate vice-president students affairs was formed in late fall. Norrie hopes to have the successful candidate assume office as soon as possible.
