Your doctor hands you a prescription. The pharmacist fills it. Usually, that's the end of it.

It shouldn't be, according to Hamilton researchers.

They envisage a day when the pharmacist becomes as integral a part of a family doctor's practice as the nurse.

Researchers in the Department of Family Medicine at McMaster University found pharmacists have a positive impact on patients' care — particularly seniors and the multiple medications they take — when they work in close partnership with family doctors.
