The CIS Volleyball Championship has only been held in Ontario three times in the last 20 years, the last occasion being in 1994-95 at Sudbury's Laurentian University.

“Canadian Interuniversity Sport is very pleased to see it's Men's
Volleyball Championship going to McMaster University and Hamilton in
2005-2006 and 2006-2007″, commented CIS president Drew Love. “This
Championship has not been held in Southern Ontario for a very long time and can only prove beneficial for the development of volleyball in this part of the country. McMaster has done a wonderful job hosting the last two editions of the CIS Women's Basketball Championship, and we have no doubt they will have the same success with this event.”

McMaster director of Athletics and Recreation Therese Quigley added that “hosting the National Championship will help develop the McMaster's Men's volleyball program into a nationally competitive program.”

McMaster also announced the 2003-2004 Men's Volleyball recruiting class that will have the opportunity to participate in the national
championship for two years in “their” home gymnasium.

This year's recruiting class features eight Ontario Volleyball Association Juvenile Elite program members, seven over 6'4″ including two 6'7″ Middle players.

Dave Preston, in his second year as head coach with McMaster, commented “this recruiting class, in one year, will enable McMaster to compete for a provincial volleyball championship.” Preston, captured six division championships in eight years as head coach at The University of Western Ontario. He joined the McMaster staff in August of 2002.
