First-year McMaster students who enrol in a Student Send-Off event in their local community get a head start on their university experience.

The Office of Alumni Advancement and various branches of the McMaster Alumni Association (MAA) host the send-offs.

The program is a series of free information sessions held for incoming students and their parents where students can obtain advice on how to succeed at McMaster.

Intended as a welcome to the University, each send-off includes a short presentation by alumni and current students and an opportunity for new students to meet and mingle with other students from their area who will be attending the University in September.

This year the MAA has made an addition to the send-off program by implementing a similar event on campus during Welcome Day, Aug. 10 for local students.

This event was created with the hopes of attracting incoming students who live off-campus or who commute to school and often find it difficult to make a connection.

Two recent alumni will speak at this event and offer advice on how to get involved as an off-campus student. This session will be held on Friday, Aug. 10 from 10 to 11 a.m. in the Wallingford Hall residence Tea Room.

The following cities will also be hosting send-off events in August. Each session is two hours in length. Students interested in attending should register by phone at 1-800-430-3326 or by e-mail to alumni@mcmaster.ca, stating which send-off they wish to attend.
