Employees working on the second floor wing of Gilmour Hall are holding an open house today to celebrate their new work space.

The area that once included a closed corridor was completely gutted last year and transformed into separate offices for the Office of the Vice-President Research & International Affairs, Senate Secretariat, Office of the Vice-President University Advancement and Financial Services Student Accounts and Cashiers.

The open house runs from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and offers visitors a chance to tour the new offices.

Physical plant project manager Bernie Shaw, who oversaw the $800,000 renovation, said he is happy with the final result.

“We took that whole area and cleaned it out to the walls,” said Shaw.

A newly-expanded hallway has an entrance to the McMaster University Student Centre (MUSC), which will allow visitors to access Gilmour Hall and MUSC, once it opens this spring.

The construction work included asbestos removal, a complete upgrade of the heating, cooling and air ventilation systems, repairs to defective pumps going to the third floor, new millwork, new walls, ceilings and floors and ethernet installation.

Shaw said the project is 95 per cent complete and will wrap up in the next few months.
